Maria Emilia Mercurio
Maria Emilia Mercurio is Technology & Innovation Manager at Materias S.r.l., a venture builder based in Naples focused on scouting and enhancing innovative technologies in the field of advanced materials.
Since 2022, she has also been co-founder and board member of AMPure, an innovative startup developing new dermocosmetic solutions based on antimicrobial peptides.
She holds a degree in Health Biotechnology and a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biotechnology from the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”, gaining experience in the design, synthesis and analysis of active biomolecules.
In 2023, through the Executive Master in Innovation Management at 24ORE Business School, she strengthened her managerial and business skills, developing a structured and systematic approach to innovation and market dynamics within companies.
Tatiana Guzzo
After graduating in Industrial Chemistry from Sapienza University of Rome, Tatiana Guzzo began her career at Janssen-Cilag S.p.A., working on the development of new medical devices.
She joined C4T in 2006 and has dedicated almost 20 years to the research and development of new molecules with potential biological activity, working on hit identification, hit-to-lead and lead optimization projects, as well as on the development of synthetic methods for high-value active pharmaceutical ingredients and intermediates at laboratory scale, later transferred to pilot scale.
As Head of the Drug Discovery Platform, she manages research services for leading pharmaceutical companies and coordinates major proprietary projects in medicinal chemistry and cosmeceuticals, overseeing multidisciplinary research teams.
As a senior researcher in organic and medicinal chemistry, she has developed distinctive expertise in the design and synthesis of metalloproteinase inhibitors and cannabinoid receptor modulators.
She is co-inventor of a patent on new selective cannabinoid receptor type 2 agonists and co-author of several scientific publications.
She also contributed significantly to the implementation of C4T’s platform for advanced NMR studies for industrial applications, including DOSY-NMR, isotopic NMR and 2D homo- and heteronuclear NMR studies.
She promotes the scouting of new research networks and partnerships and is responsible for institutional presentations at conferences and events.
Academic roles:
Since 2015, she has been responsible for the training module “Principles of Drug Discovery” within the Level II Master’s Programme “Preclinical and Clinical Drug Development: Technical, Scientific, Regulatory and Ethical Aspects” at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Rome.
From the 2018/2019 to the 2022/2023 academic year, she served as Adjunct Professor at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, teaching the course “Drug Design & Combinatorial Chemistry” within the Master’s Degree in Biotechnology.
